Use fresh cow dung to get 100 kg turmeric extra

Fateh Singh Choudhary and other farmers in his village rely on cow dung to increase the yield of turmeric (Curcuma longa) in their farms. He begins with digging the area surrounding the stems of the turmeric plant. Then he applies fresh cow dung on the bunds, furrows and the soil surrounding the stems. The application of cow dung enhances the biological activities of the already present earthworms in the soil. The increased biological activity among the earthworms means more excreta, which acts as manure for turmeric and therefore augments its yields. This method can yield 1,060 to 1,080 kgs of turmeric from 0.25 hectares of land compared to 900 to 1000 kgs by practising the older method. The produce thus obtained is good in quality.
