Mahua flower- not only used as wine but also a good food item

For a layman as well as for an educated person mahul flower is only used for the preparation of wine. But it is a nutritious food item also. A number of food items are being prepared with mahul in rural Orissa. Especially this flower is a friend in need for the tribal people. At the time of food scarcity mahul is the only source for them. Here are some tricks for preparation of food.

Take some fresh mahul flowers and wash those in tap water. Then boil those with round bean, kabui, arahar, moong and horse gram in a pot. Boil those properly and after complete evaporation of water, cool it and it is now ready for eat.

Dry mahul flowers completely and pack in clean bags. In rainy season clean those flowers and make wet. After completely soaked in water boil with tamarind seed or kabui, arahar, moong. After completely boiled cool it and the next day it is ready to eat.
