| About Mushrooms
Mushrooms are actually a class of fungus that blooms out of
damp and dark areas rich in dead wood debris, leaf litter
and other waste material such as animal dung. They are efficient
agents fitting into the nutrient cycles of farms and forests.
Thus naturally they rich sources of nutrients, having extracted
into themselves much that are useful from the wastes. Earlier
there are certain myths amongst the Indians, such as mushrooms
were non- vegetarian. Some also considered them as inauspicious.
All are wrong. Of thousands of edible varieties 25 f them
are widely acceptable, indeed highly recommendable as food
items. They are low in calories, good in proteins, easy to
digest, improve the immunity of the body and contain fibre,
which is good for variety of systemic conditions. But the
best thing about them is their richness in vitamins and minerals.
For growing children who tend to be anaemic, mushrooms are
widely recommended.
