International Training Workshop on Bamboo-based Production and Enterprise Management, 20 - 29 November 2006, Kudal,Maharashtra State, India

Background: The International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) and the Centre for Indian Bamboo Resource & Technology (CIBART) are jointly organizing an International Training Workshop on 'Bamboo-based Production and Enterprise Management'. Bamboo plays a significant role in creation of employment and income generation activities in an ecologically sustainable manner. Current annual trade in bamboo worldwide is an estimated US$7 billion. Bamboo is intimately associated with the livelihoods and traditions of several millions of people in many parts of Asia, Africa and Latin America. Recent changes in the character of world economy have brought into focus the need for enterprises to have production systems that meet the challenges of competitive global markets. Upgrading the level of enterprises using management principles and technological tools has therefore become more urgent now than ever before.
